Creating Titles

  • In all cases, titles should fade in quickly (20 frames), remain onscreen for approximately three to five seconds, then fade out (20 frames). Titles should only be used when an interview subject is first seen and heard on the screen (in other words, during an interview segment). If the subject will NEVER be heard during the video (because we’re using stills or long shots without audio, etc.), then the titles should come up on the very first shot. Titles have to be consistent across every single story.
  • Make sure that you write down your subjects’ names accurately during interviews so that you can spell their names correctly on the titles.
  • For TEACHERS, ADMINISTRATORS, STAFF, etc.:
First line: Mr. or Ms., last name only. No first names.
Second line: Title (i.e. English Teacher, Custodian, Assistant Principal, etc.)
  • For STUDENTS:
First line: First and last name, first letters capitalized, then grade and magnet in parentheses: Terri Blather (11, HSU)
Second line: Group affiliation, title, description, etc. ONLY if it is relevant to the story (i.e. Football player, Key Club President, Witness, Recent Graduate, etc.)
